Did You Know?

The adult male Orca eats up to 400 pounds of fish per day.

There are 3 pods of killer whales that surround Vancouver Island that have a current population of:

J-Pod, 26 orca
K-Pod,19 orca
L-Pod,  45 orca
 
Orca whales travel 150 miles on average per day.

Adult humpback whales are the size of a school bus and  typically weigh up to 40 tons!

Grey Whales are bottom feeders and have the greatest migration from Mexico to Alaska.

Adult Elephant seals weigh approximately 2 tons.

There are over 40,000 harbor seals that surround Vancouver Island.

The Whales

    Abundant marine life exists in the waters surrounding southern Vancouver Island, home to the largest concentration of Killer Whales (Orcas) in close proximity to a large population centre.

  In addition, visitors can see Harbour and Dalls porpoises, Pacific White Sided dolphins, Stellar Sea Lions, Elephant and Harbour Seals, Minke/Gray/Humpback Whales and abundant sea birds that live in the area, including bald eagles. Whale vocalizations can be heard over the WildCat's hydro-phone system.
